What is K-Tufting?
"Tufting" is a popular method of creating original rugs that has been gaining attention on social media, and AOYAMA KONGBANG® has named its Korean style tufting (differences in techniques, designs, and other materials used) "K-Tufting ® ."
Tufting: Not just for rugs
I believe that the word "tufting" and the technique are still not widely known or recognized in Japan.
For this reason, even among people who are familiar with tufting, many think of tufting as a handmade technique used only for the purpose of making rugs.
Meanwhile, in Korea, where the "tufting" boom began earlier than in Japan, tufting rugs still use the same basic tufting techniques, but their shapes have evolved into creative works that are not bound by stereotypes.

Behind the scenes, in addition to the commonly known steps of "tufting," a piece is the result of a lot of research, ingenuity, trial and error.
To answer the question, "What is the actual difference?", I won't go into detail here because the materials used are slightly different, but if you look at the results produced in a Korean studio and a Japanese studio, I think you can get a "Korean feel" just from the atmosphere.
I hope you understand that the approaches to expressing these differences are different.

An evolution of "tufting"
At Aoyama Konban, Previous "Tufting" works were based on the concept of "something to put down as a rug or something to decorate", but in order to broaden the possibilities and make them feel more familiar to people, we have specialized in creating tufting accessories to realize a style of "something to wear and carry".
Aoyama Konban also utilizes the "K-Tufting ® " technique to create never-before-seen three-dimensional works.
Although tufting has limitations in terms of how uneven the texture can be expressed, we have managed to create a tufted doll (Tufting My Child Keychain) that has the feel of a three-dimensional rug.
Aoyama Konban hopes to continue to utilize the Korean style tufting technique "K-Tufting ® " and operate a studio that allows many people to experience tufting in a familiar environment.
Please come and experience the fun tufting at Aoyama Konban 💛
